QBE Australia MD Raymond Jones has been re-elected as Insurance Council President for another year-long term. The two Deputy Presidents, American Home Assurance Regional President John Butselaar and Royal & SunAlliance MD Mike Wilkins will also continue in their positions.

Mr Jones, who has been President since May 2001, said there are many challenges for the industry in the year ahead. “Insurers continue to work with governments to make public liability insurance more available and affordable for the community,” he said. “The decision by the Commonwealth, states and territories to agree to the adoption of consistent laws covering negligence was a very important step, but there is still a lot of work to be done by both governments and the insurance industry.”

He said the industry will also need to respond to any regulatory changes that may flow from the HIH Royal Commission.
