RACQ sees hailstorm climbing towards 900
RACQ Insurance has received 882 claims for home and vehicle damage after a wild storm saw golf-ball sized hail hit Rockhampton and parts of central Queensland on April 19.
The insurance arm of the Brisbane-based road body says 539 motor vehicle claims and 343 home claims have been lodged so far.
“Unfortunately we’ve seen plenty of smashed windscreens, damaged roofs and broken windows as the hail came in hard and fast across the region,” RACQ Insurance spokeswoman Lucinda Ross said.
RACQ is opening a dedicated hail claim assessment and repair site. Members can drive up and have their car assessed for hail damage without having to exit the vehicle in order to observe social distancing.
“For members whose homes have been damaged by hail or stormwater, we’ll be conducting digital assessments to ensure we don’t put either members or staff at any risk,” Ms Ross said.
