RAA chief joins Insurance Council board

The Insurance Council of Australia has announced Royal Automobile Association (RAA) Insurance CEO Tara Page will join its board as a non-executive director, filling a vacancy created by former Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania (RACT) chief insurance officer Paul Sofronoff’s departure.

Ms Page was appointed RAA Insurance CEO last May after serving as chief governance and risk officer. She previously worked as a partner at law firm Thomson Geer and was a member of the Australian Takeovers Panel.

Insurance Council President Nick Hawkins says Ms Page’s experience in law and risk mitigation will provide a valuable perspective to the board.

“Tara’s local knowledge and demonstrated commitment to community engagement will be a welcome addition ... as we look to navigate the challenges of insurance affordability, risk mitigation and regulatory changes ahead for the insurance industry,” he said.

A board vacancy arose when Mr Sofronoff left his position at RACT, citing travel constraints in a LinkedIn post. He served a one-year term on ICA’s board.

“Paul was instrumental in navigating RACT through unprecedented challenges, including the impacts of covid and supply chain restraints, while always placing our members at the forefront of every decision,” RACT CEO Mark Mugnaioni told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

Mr Mugnaioni says he has “great confidence” in RACT CFO Patrick Riley, who was appointed as Mr Sofronoff’s replacement.
