Queensland storm bill tops $7 million… and rising

Wild storms which ravaged parts of southeastern Queensland last week have hit insurers with a damage bill of $7.5 million. But the buck doesn’t stop there, with further bad weather tipped.

The storms caused widespread damage across Ipswich, Brisbane and along the south-east coast of the state, Insurance Disaster Response Organisation Queensland Co-ordinator Graham Jones told Sunrise Exchange News. Insurers have already received more than 3500 claims and that figure will grow as people get around to contacting their insurers.

“The storms resembled those Queensland used to have years ago,” he said.  “The losses are well within expectations.”

Claims have ranged from small amounts for broken windows and roof tiles to total devastation of homes and vehicles.
