QBE isn’t just the Australian general insurer of the year, as judged by National Insurance Brokers Association members. It has now been named the “insurance group of the decade” at the Australian Banking and Finance Insurance Awards in Sydney.

CommInsure collected three awards for best call centre, best general insurance product and best technology innovation. ING CEO Paul Bedbrook was named Australian insurance executive of the year and ING also won the best insurance website category.

The Insurance Council of Australia won best new promotion for its work in launching the new code of practice, and Aon was awarded best insurance broker.

MLC won the best life insurance product and best life insurer categories, and Allianz won best general insurer. Best regional insurer for the year was Wesfarmers Federation Insurance, and the Australian Pensioners Insurance Agency won the best niche insurer award.

Reinsurer of the year went to Swiss Re.
