Police investigate sickening CGU mail
The pungent contents of two small envelopes that drew police and emergency services last week to the CGU head office in Melbourne’s William St have not yet been identified.
Spokesman Chris Jackson says the envelopes were not opened and the contents were not known.
He says the odour was bad enough to make CGU mailroom staff sick for a brief time, but it was “business as usual” after fire officers removed the envelopes and staff got the medical all-clear.
“We had a small number of people who experienced very mild nausea due to the confined space of the mailroom – just from the smell of the substance rather than the impact of it,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
Mr Jackson declined to comment on where the envelopes were sent from, saying police are handling the matter.
