Pensioners in consumer motor accolade

Suncorp-owned Australian Pensioners Insurance Agency (APIA) has the most satisfied car insurance policyholders, according to a survey by the independent consumer body Choice.

A poll of 2776 Choice members in July resulted in APIA gaining a "general satisfaction" score of 76%. Among other insurers with the best customer feedback were SA insurer RAA (60%) and AAMI (55%). Allianz received the worst satisfaction score of 30%.

In a Choice evaluation of individual policy features, Allianz fared better, scoring 76%. RAA (89%), RACT (86%), HBA (83%), Mutual Community (83%) and Suncorp (82%) received the highest scores.

In the November issue of its magazine, Choice recommended insurance policies with a policy score of 70% and above to consumers. Its worst performers were Budget Direct (46%), AAMI (59% or 60% depending on location), and Western QBE (62% or 63%).

In the year to March 2007, 13% of comprehensively insured vehicles had an accident, with an average repair bill of around $2500.
