Online note helps explain FSL issue

A briefing note explaining the fire services levy issue in Victoria and providing tables to calculate likely impacts on premiums is now available online.

The two-page briefing note has been written by LMI MD Allan Manning, who is a long-time critic of insurance taxes levied on policyholders by state governments.

The briefing note is available at here.

Professor Manning told insuranceNEWS.com.au today the note will “hopefully assist in explaining how we got to this situation and what people can do about it”.

“I’m very concerned that individuals and businesses are cutting back on insurance cover in the face of this massive levy and its ‘double-dipping’ collection system,” he said.

“People have to understand the situation we all face in Victoria as a result of the Government’s approach to the transition from insurance to property taxes.”

He says the note emphasises the need for people and businesses “to insure accurately and adequately”.

We should all be concerned the levy has finally reached such a point that people may feel they can no longer afford insurance because of government-imposed taxes,” Professor Manning said.
