Insured losses from a tornado that hit Hobsonville in Auckland in December total $NZ8.7 million ($7.2 million), according to the Insurance Council of New Zealand.

The figure is up about $NZ2 million ($1.7 million) on the original estimate.

House and contents claims total $NZ6.1 million ($5 million), with commercial claims at $NZ1.9 million ($1.6 million) and motor vehicle at $NZ410,000 ($340,685).

The storm killed three people and caused flooding and road closures.
