NZ quake prompts almost 100 claims
New Zealand’s Earthquake Commission has received 97 claims relating to last Friday’s 7.1-magnitude quake off the North Island’s East Cape.
The tremors caused a small tsunami but no major damage or injury.
The quake struck about 4.30am, 130km northeast of the town of Te Araroa. It was felt from Northland to Wellington in the North Island, and at the top of the South Island.
Aftershocks were felt into Saturday, including a 4.9 magnitude quake.
Residents have until December 2 to lodge claims for the event.
