NZ launches earthquake advisory service
New Zealand insurers will help fund a free earthquake support scheme for homeowners.
The Residential Advisory Service, which will be launched next month, will help with issues such as insurance, rebuilds and repairs.
It is a response by the Government to calls for an advocacy or assistance program in the Canterbury region.
The independent service will help people who face complex issues and conflicting advice, or who are in disagreement with other parties, Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says.
Funding is still being finalised, but insurers, the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority and the Earthquake Commission will contribute.
The scheme will provide advice and information, but homeowners in dispute with their insurers will be directed to a registered resolution service, Insurance Council of New Zealand CEO Tim Grafton told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
