NSW fires contained
A number of large and destructive bushfires in northern NSW, including one near the border with Queensland, have been contained.
Major fires in the Bruxner Highway, Tingha Plateau and Linton areas destroyed 33 houses and burned at least 74,750 hectares, NSW Rural Fire Service says.
The Wallangarra fire on the Queensland border burned more than 42,000 hectares.
In Tasmania emergency services have today issued five fire advice statements to residents around the sites of recent blazes.
Conditions are relatively benign although flare-ups within the fire area and on the fire edge will continue.
