NRMA in discussion with StaySafe report author
IAG subsidiary NRMA Insurance is holding discussions with the author of the damning NSW parliamentary StaySafe Committee report into its smash repairer system.
IAG spokesman Andrew Tubb told Sunrise Exchange News the company is “working through matters raised” in the report with author and TAFE lecturer Gary Thomas.
NRMA Insurance dismissed the findings, which found its new “Care & Repair” system was unsafe, saying the committee didn’t bother to view the system in practice and relied too heavily on negative feedback from the automotive industry.
Mr Tubb says while IAG can’t say too much – the discussion process is confidential and involves many parties – NRMA Insurance wants to get to the bottom of some of the report’s findings that were particularly critical of the system.
NRMA Insurance Head of Claims and Assessing David Brown says IAG still stands by Care & Repair, but it wants to “better understand” some issues raised in the report. It will be interesting to see how many changes now take place. He says NRMA Insurance has already been working on “better standardising and enhancing our internal procedures” because the insurer realises “any system can be improved”.
