North Queensland comparator reveals search figures

The Federal Government’s North Queensland Home Insurance comparison website attracted 4700 users who conducted 6275 sessions in the first six months of operation, figures prepared for insuranceNEWS.com.au reveal.

The most popular sum-insured queries were for houses at $350,000 and house contents at $35,000.

The update comes a year after the Government’s pledge to deliver on its “commitment to assist consumers and increase competition in the north Queensland insurance market”.

The silver bullet was a comparison website for home building and contents cover.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) was given the job of bringing the Government’s commitment to fruition, and the website, compiled by Finity, went live on March 31 this year.

“This website aims to help you be more aware of the variety of home insurance policies and range of premiums available,” the site promises.

There are 12 insurance brands on the site, including four from three banks: CommInsure, Westpac General Insurance and ANZ’s Home Insurance and OnePath brands.

Queensland-based Suncorp has its Suncorp, AAMI and Apia brands on the list, and RACQ Insurance also flies the local flag.

Other providers include Allianz, NRMA Insurance, QBE and Youi.
