Non-insurance under review
The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) is seeking answers on why so many people in Australia forgo home and contents cover.
Its May seminar in Sydney will focus on the nation’s high level of non-insurance, which ICA says is a significant challenge to overcome.
ICA research shows 23% of Australians have no form of home and contents cover. Non-insurance is highest in NSW and Queensland at 26%, and lowest in SA at 18%.
Spokesman Paul Giles says ICA wants to understand the causes and effects of non-insurance, looking at which people fail to take out home and contents cover, why they are not insured and any associated trends.
“Our research will contribute to a greater understanding of the challenges of the community and governments to address the issue of non-insurance in Australia,” he said.
