NIBA looks to copy guide for MPs
A British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) guide for politicians could serve as a template for an Australian version, according to the National Insurance Brokers Association.
CEO Dallas Booth says the UK pamphlet, which aims to help MPs when their constituents raise insurance problems, is worth considering in the local context.
“We do not have anything like this at the moment, but it is a very impressive document,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
“We will certainly look at doing something similar in Australia on behalf of our members.”
The BIBA pamphlet – Helping Constituents With Insurance: An MPs’ Guide – was developed using feedback from UK parliamentarians and covers issues such as problems securing policies for non-standard risks.
It highlights brokers’ expertise with difficult-to-place cover and promotes BIBA’s Find a Broker service.
“Our Find a Broker service receives about 400,000 enquiries each year from customers looking for insurance, most of whom have struggled to find insurance elsewhere,” BIBA Executive Director Graeme Trudgill said.
“We hope our guide will encourage MPs to pass constituents on to appropriate brokers.”
