New NTI group digs down into safety research
Truck insurance specialist underwriter National Transport Insurance (NTI) has appointed a new advisory board to assist its accident research centre in finding practical road safety solutions.
The new AllRoads Safety Advisory Board for the National Transport Accident Research Centre will extend the scope of the centre’s research beyond the analysis of truck accidents.
Melbourne University researcher Associate Professor Kim Hassall, who will chair the board, says Australia “produces a plethora of excellent research on road safety, but in many cases the outcomes don’t flow on to generating real change on the ground”.
“By reviewing both national and international research findings in detail, we hope to pinpoint measures to make road transport safer, benefitting not only operators but everyone on the roads.”
The board will also include Queensland Department of Transport Principal Engineer Laszlo Bruzsa, NTI National Industrial Relations Manager Owen Driscoll, and NTI GM of Claims Operations Alan Hasted.
Mr Driscoll says truck accident research is a prerequisite for achieving sustainable safety improvements.
“We hope by creating this board we’ll move closer to recommending changes that could make a real difference not just for truck drivers, but for everyone on our roads,” he said.
