Marcia claims top $412 million
Insured losses from Cyclone Marcia were estimated at $412.5 million from 32,971 claims at March 25, according to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA).
Domestic claims account for 73% of the losses, with commercial making up the remainder, spokesman Campbell Fuller told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
In the previous update, to March 11, losses were estimated at $403.6 million from 29,565 claims.
The Queensland coastal towns of Rockhampton and Yeppoon bore the brunt of the destruction when Marcia lashed the state in February.
About 45 policyholders recently attended ICA forums in the two towns, to discuss their concerns directly with insurers.
Staff from Suncorp, IAG, RACQ Insurance, QBE, Allianz, Elders and Youi were at the forums, along with representatives from Queensland Legal Aid and the Financial Ombudsman Service.
