Localised NSW storm causes moderate claims
A storm that caused flash flooding in the Illawarra region of NSW last week has only caused moderate claims, according to insurers.
NRMA Insurance initially received about 250 claims, mainly centred on the Albion Park area.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, a total of 249mm fell at Wollongong Airport on March 22. The storm was localised, with no rainfall at Wollongong and Port Kembla that day.
An NRMA Insurance spokesman said the insurer received 880 claims from across the state on that day, but the worst affected area was south of Sydney.
“Most of the claims relate to overflowing guttering and damage to carpets and walls,” he said.
The Insurance Council of Australia has not declared the event a catastrophe.
