Larry blocks off Innisfail

Loss adjusters will begin heading into the cyclone-devastated area around Innisfail tomorrow as analysts warn of losses in the tens of millions.

While major insurers – now all public companies – are reluctant to provide estimates of losses, Insurance Disaster Response Organisation Queensland Co-ordinator Graham Jones says the biggest problem so far is getting loss adjusters into the area.

“We won’t have a detailed estimate until the end of the week,’ he said.

While the preliminary figures are yet to come in, Mr Jones says the disaster will be costly.

The majority of the 290kmh winds hit the Innisfail area directly, while weaker winds and rain fronts affected the area north up to Cairns and south along the coast.
