Lardner takes the reins as NIBA President

Steve Lardner was elected as NIBA’s President at the association’s AGM on Friday.

The National GM of Aon Australia’s Retail Risk Services told insuranceNEWS.com.au he’s looking forward to taking on the role.

“It is going to be an interesting challenge in today’s environment,” he said. “Having been involved in NIBA for more than four years I’ve seen quite a few changes.”

Mr Lardner says there are a number of things he’d like to work on as president – such as increasing the profile of brokers in the community; attracting young talent to the profession; getting non-members involved in NIBA; and encouraging the industry to work together to improve its overall profile.

“I think the industry – particularly broking – is pretty well placed,” he said. “It doesn’t seem that the Government has its eye on us. That itself is a challenge. I see real potential for the future to show some advocacy for the industry.”

Mr Lardner joined Aon through one of its predecessor companies 18 years ago and has held several roles, including State Director NSW and National Manager Aon Insurance Services. He has served on the NIBA board since 2004. He takes over the presidency from NSW country broker Paul Goddard.

Marsh Australia Director David Duffield is the new Vice President.

Peter Blanco, a Director at De Conno & Blanco Insurance Brokers in Adelaide, is the new South Australian board member.
