Insurers unworried by storms
Damage caused by storms which hit the South Australian town of Murray Bridge at the weekend is likely to cost insurers about $3 million, according to the Insurance Disaster Response Organisation (IDRO).
IDRO SA Co-ordinator Chris Newland says that extremely heavy rain damaged many homes and shops within the town. “Around 150 homes have been inundated following successive downpours since last Thursday.”
Meanwhile, the damage costs from storms in Sydney and southeastern Queensland yesterday and last night have not yet been assessed.
This morning an Insurance Council of Australia spokesman told Sunrise Exchange News the storms prior to last night were relatively small, and while there has been some flooding in NSW and a minor hailstorm, they were not in densely populated areas.
