Insurers to visit hail-hit Victorian town

The Insurance Council of Australia will host a community consultation and information session in the Victorian town of Casterton on Wednesday.

The meeting comes after the town, in the state’s west, was hit by hail and storms last October.

Insurer representatives will be available for one-on-one discussions about individual claims, followed by a “town hall” session with ICA and insurers to inform residents about claims processes, complaint avenues and ways to recover from weather events.

ICA mitigation and extreme weather response director Liam Walter says the local council recently met with federal MP Dan Tehan and community members to hear first-hand accounts of the storms.

“While insurers are already assisting impacted customers in their recovery, we understand that having the opportunity to hear from representatives in person and ask questions can be important in understanding the claims process and helping people get back on their feet,” Mr Walter said.

The event is at Casterton Town Hall in Henty Street from 10am to 4pm for one-on-one insurer consultations, and 5pm to 8pm for the information session
