Insurers tip small flood bill
The damage bill from flooding across southeast Queensland is likely to exceed millions of dollars, but insurers are not concerned about any threat of dramatic losses.
Heavy downpours across the Noosa region caused blackouts, swept away roads and damaged buildings last week.
Noosa Shire Council has requested a million-dollar bailout package from the Queensland Government to restore road and power infrastructure, but the cost to insurers is understood to be low.
Insurance Council of Australia spokesman Ben McAlary said the industry is not expecting a large amount of claims.
“Early indications suggest it to be a minor insurance event with only a handful of claims registered to date,” Mr McAlary said. “Loss adjusters are currently on the ground in the affected area. But it is too early for industry-wide data.”
The Shire of Noosa says all roads in the region should be reopened by tomorrow.
