Insurance lawyer Alliance’s first female president
An insurance lawyer has become the first female and youngest president of the Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA).
Clara Davies, 32, a partner at Burt and Davies in Melbourne, has practised in personal injury law for the last 10 years, specialising in transport accident compensation.
She says among issues on the agenda for the ALA will be a focus on workers’ compensation issues and occupational health and safety legislation.
“The rights of the injured continue to be eroded, as is seen by the recent changes to WorkCover in South Australia, and we need to see some balance restored,” she told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
Earlier this year the ALA made a submission to the Federal Government review of workers’ compensation vehicle Comcare, in which it opposed any extension of the scheme on the basis workers’ entitlements would be compromised.
The review is due to submit its report to Workplace Relations Minister Julia Gillard by the end of this month.
Ms Davies will serve a one-year term.
