Insurance law leader awarded Queen’s Birthday honour
Leading insurance lawyer Nancy Milne has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the Queen’s Birthday honours.
Her award is in recognition of her service to the legal sector, in particular to the insurance and finance industries.
Ms Milne led the legal team that persuaded the NSW Government to establish a commission into compensating victims of asbestos-related diseases. She was also one of the two-person team that examined Section 54 of the Insurance Contracts Act in 2003. She has twice been recognised as one of the world’s top 20 insurance and reinsurance lawyers by the International Financial Law Review.
Apart from her legal work she has held numerous positions in the industry as a director, including being Chairman of Zurich Financial Services Australia and a director at Munich Reinsurance Australasia.
Axa Asia-Pacific Chairman Rick Allert has been named an officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his service to the business sector, after being appointed a Member in 1997.
