Inquiry heads to more flood-hit towns

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics will hold hearings in several NSW communities next month as it continues its inquiry into insurers’ responses to the 2022 floods.

The inquiry will visit Molong, Eugowra, Richmond and Parramatta from May 7 to May 10, with Chair Daniel Mulino underlining the importance of hearing “from the locals in some of the worst-hit regions”.

Molong and Eugowra were severely affected by flooding in November 2022 and are part of committee member and independent MP Andrew Gee’s Calare electorate.

The event in Richmond will hear from communities across the Hawkesbury-Nepean River region that have suffered several significant floods since 2020. And the session in Parramatta will give Sydney residents an opportunity to speak.

The committee held three hearings in Victoria last week and has visited southeast Queensland to hear councils, community support groups and residents discuss their flood experiences.

The committee is also holding a survey on consumers’ experiences with insurers after the floods in 2022.
