Insurance Enquiries & Complaints CEO Sam Parrino has congratulated the activities of insurance personnel during the Canberra bushfires noting that they acted “swiftly, humanely and flexibly”.

Mr Parrino said that most of the enquiries handled throughout that time weren’t complaints. “Most of the several hundred matters we dealt with were more in the nature of clarifications than real problems,” he said. “After a disaster of this magnitude involving many hundreds of claims I would normally expect some issues might result in matters that need resolution.”

But through close contact with the Insurance Disaster Recovery Organisation and various government organisations, problems were identified and dealt with on the spot.
