ICA warns on compo scams
Drivers should be on their guard against scammers posing as insurance representatives, the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has warned.
“In recent months, insurers have become aware of an increase in unsolicited calls to motorists that promote compensation services or ask for personal information,” CEO Rob Whelan says.
The calls are made following motor accidents, ICA says. Anyone who receives an unsolicited call should protect their personal information.
Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Deputy Chairman Delia Rickard says scammers target people in various ways, and consumers should check the commission’s SCAMwatch website.
