ICA to help shape National Injury Insurance Scheme
The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has been given a seat at the table of Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten’s new National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS) advisory group.
The advisory group has been appointed following the release of the Productivity Commission's inquiry into disability care and support.
The report recommended the establishment of two schemes, the NIIS and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
The NIIS will provide for the lifetime care and support of people who experience a catastrophic injury.
ICA is being represented on the group by GM Economics and Taxation Alex Sanchez.
Other advisory group members include David Bowen, the ED of the NSW Lifetime Care and Support Scheme (chairman); National Special Projects Manager at Maurice Blackburn, John Cain; National People with Disabilities and Carer Council Chairman Rhonda Galbally; GM Corporate Development and Operations at Slater and Gordon, Cath Evans; Australian Council of Trade Unions President Ged Kearney; Australian Government Actuary Peter Martin; Australian Local Government Association President Genia McCaffery; Comcare CEO Paul O’Connor; former Australian Medical Association president Andrew Pesce; and PricewaterhouseCoopers partner John Walsh.
