ICA publishes risk and affordability data
The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has aggregated information on affordability and published it online.
Its website provides information on the National Flood Information Database, the ICA Data Globe of natural hazard mapping, James Cook University’s engineering inspections for strata title property and details of the Property Resilience and Exposure Program.
ICA CEO Rob Whelan says web-based information on the initiatives lets the industry demonstrate the relationship between risk, available data and premiums.
Each program helps show how hazard exposures, building vulnerability and premiums tie in together, he says.
The project is part of a bid to increase community understanding of risks and work towards practical solutions to affordability challenges.
“Close collaboration between industry and government is critical to identifying these solutions, and communities need clear signposts about steps they can take to manage their own exposure to risk from natural disasters,” Mr Whelan said.
