ICA nears deal to donate cars for firefighter training
The Insurance Council of Australia and Fire and Rescue NSW are discussing a partnership in which insurers would provide wrecked vehicles to help with emergency worker training.
The fire service says it wants the two parties to form a “meaningful collaboration that underscores our collective goal of promoting safety and resilience within the community. Access to contemporary vehicles is needed to support relevant training scenarios, helping firefighters gain the precision and expertise needed when responding to time-critical road crash rescues.”
ICA says it is in “advanced discussions”, adding: “[Modern vehicles’] complex designs and safety features mean firefighters must continually adapt their skills.
“Insurer-donated vehicles, otherwise destined for salvage, can bridge the training gap by providing real-world, hands-on experience.”
