ICA makes field trip to drought-hit Tamworth
The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has visited farmers near Tamworth in NSW to better understand how they are dealing with the drought.
GM Risk Karl Sullivan wrote on his LinkedIn page the trip was also to find out how the community is “preparing themselves where possible for any future improvement in conditions”.
“Member companies of ICA are continuing to examine ways in which crop and farm covers can be expanded in order to provide better options to primary producers to protect themselves against adverse conditions,” he said.
Last month the council revealed it is compiling data to determine the extent of insurance cover purchased by the sector.
The data collection is part of the five-point plan ICA developed last year to address the low take-up of multi-peril crop insurance in Australia.
