Kate Lyons, Suncorp’s Executive Manager, Reinsurance Strategy & Operations, has been appointed Chairman of the Climate Change Action Committee.

The committee, established by the Insurance Council of Australia in January to work on practical initiatives to respond to climate change, will operate three sub-committees to drive projects based on specialised themes.

Mark Leplastrier, IAG Senior Manager Natural Perils, will chair the sub-committee for Data and Knowledge.

Ben Pratt, QBE Group Head of External Communications, will manage communication.

Allianz Senior Manager, Regulation and Policy, Denise Hang, will chair the Coordination, Collaboration and Integration of Action sub-committee.

Earlier this year, ICA appointed external specialist Tom Davies to develop a blueprint to “achieve an orderly transition to a low carbon economy”. Mr Davies will continue, working closely with Ms Lyons.

Jacki Johnson, chair of the Australian Sustainable Finance Initiative, facilitated the strategy development.
