Good forecast for crop premiums

The outlook for crop insurance premiums is looking positive for the next 12 months, says Primacy Underwriting Agency Underwriting Manager Peter Book.

“We are seeing premium levels in the next 12 months being back to normal, although we have had mixed results with claims,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“But we are expecting good crop yields due to the amount of moisture in the soil, which will support good winter crops.”

Mr Book says high levels of water in the irrigation schemes will support irrigated crops – as long as we are subject to average rainfall occurs during winter.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting average rainfall for most of Australia in the next few months although some areas of WA, SA and Victoria will have below average rainfall.

Premiums will also benefit from good prices for many agricultural commodities.
