State finalists in the National Insurance Brokers Association's (NIBA) Warren Tickle Memorial Award for young brokers will undertake a "group project" and learn new personal skills during their judging in Sydney in July, according to NIBA CEO Noel Pettersen.

Melbourne broker Kevin Baker, from Victoria, was named on Saturday night as Victoria's entry for the national award, with the winner to be announced at the NIBA Convention in October.

He joins Dean Brumby from Queensland, Angela San Diego from NSW, Ward Dedman from WA and Ian Furby from SA.

Mr Pettersen says forward convention bookings from brokers are well up on last year, with an encouraging number of young professionals signing up.

Judging for the Warren Tickle award will be undertaken by NIBA's Education Committee and a nominee from long-time sponsor Vero.
