Flood review: Industry commits to raise awareness

Both the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) and IAG have set out plans to increase the level of flood awareness in the community.

In its submission to the Natural Disaster Insurance Review (NDIR), ICA says it will create a “community flood portal” where property owners can view their property’s flood risk.

In addition, ICA has committed to providing the Federal Government with a database of all known flood-prone properties.

IAG says it is planning a community awareness program “that will assist Australians in understanding the risks they face in their environment and possible options for reducing that risk”.

An IAG spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au the program is still in its planning stages, with relevant data being collected, and no further information on the form the program might take is available.
