Flood: Inquiry starts as submissions close
Residents of the flash flood-devastated Lockyer Valley can make a submission to the commission of inquiry into the Queensland floods any time, with hearings beginning today.
Submissions from all other parties closed last week, with 124 submissions received. However, Lockyer Valley residents have been given an open-ended date for submissions.
The hearings will be held until the end of May.
The inquiry will investigate a range of factors, including the performance of private insurers in meeting claims and the adequacy of forecasts and early warning systems.
A report will be released by August 1 outlining the commission’s recommendations for preparing for future flood crises, to be implemented by the next wet season.
