Flood: Guide to help claimants
Queenslanders can now access a simple how-to guide for processing their claims following floods, storm and cyclones.
Legal Aid Queensland last week released a guide to getting cyclone, storms and flood insurance claims paid, which explains the steps a claimant should take.
It provides advice on such simple measures as making a list detailing damaged or destroyed items and any additional information that might be useful in the claims process.
The guide also directs people to photograph the damage, collect any relevant paperwork and obtained signed declarations from people who may have seen the damaged items.
Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten says the guide provides a range of important information on how to submit an insurance claim.
“While it’s Queensland-specific, it will also be of assistance to people in other states facing similar circumstances.”
Attorney-General Robert McClelland says those affected by the floods have legal rights to pursue insurance claims, and the new guide will help with that.
“A number of legal issues relating to insurance claims are being addressed, including housing and tenancy issues and lost or destroyed documents,” he said.
The guide is available online on the Queensland Legal Aid website.
