Flammable cladding found on Melbourne hotel
The Travelodge Hotel in Melbourne’s Docklands is working to replace non-compliant cladding discovered on the exterior of its building.
“Officers from the City of Melbourne have been working co-operatively with Travelodge regarding non-compliant aluminium composite panel cladding on the façade of the building,” a council spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
“The façade has various types of material and only a small proportion in certain areas needs to be replaced with compliant material.
“The owner is keen to proceed with the required rectification works and has agreed to replace the affected cladding with compliant panels, in accordance with the Building Code of Australia.”
The council is monitoring the progress and is satisfied the building is safe to occupy.
Non-compliant cladding was blamed for the rapid spread of a fire at the Lacrosse apartments in Docklands in November 2014.
