Farmers call for boycott of WFI
Wesfarmers-owned WFI is facing a rural boycott as farmers continue their campaign against Coles supermarkets’ milk-pricing moves.
A motion passed at the WA Farmers Federation (WAFarmers) conference in Perth last week called for a boycott on all products and services supplied by Wesfarmers.
A copy of the motion has been obtained by insuranceNEWS.com.au.
“That due to Coles predatory pricing policy, WAFarmers encourages their members, and the wider farming community in general, to boycott Coles supermarkets and all Wesfarmers subsidiaries, with particular emphasis on CSBP and WFI,” the motion said.
The conference was told Coles’ move to price milk at $1 a litre had cost the WA dairy industry $25 million in the past 25 months, although the retailer denies this.
A WAFarmers spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au the motion has now been referred to the organisation’s executive.
“The motion expresses the significant concern of WA’s dairy farmers in relation to the retail pricing strategy implemented by Coles,” he said.
“At this stage, the executive has not had the opportunity to consider the motion, nor its implementation.”
A spokesman for Wesfarmers Insurance told insuranceNEWS.com.au the company is aware of the motion to boycott its products.
