Experts group flags ‘exciting projects’, conference

Association of Insurance Building & Engineering Consultants chair Deniz Bekir says the group has “exciting projects” lined up to lift the quality of expert reports used by insurers.

He provided the update last week at the group’s annual general meeting, AIBEC’s first since it formed last year.

Projects include launching an executive certificate for insurance consultants – developed with the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance – and a conference in Sydney on July 23.

“There has been a high level of engagement and support for AIBEC’s initiative by individual founding members, allied supporters and industry groups,” Mr Bekir said.

“There are exciting projects in advanced planning stages … AIBEC’s objective is to have a positive impact and bring about improved claims outcomes.”

He says the group has met with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, the Insurance Council, the National Insurance Brokers Association and other stakeholders.

It has also held technical and information webinars and been supported by education groups Pointsbuild and ATTAR in developing targeted training material for members.

AIBEC was formed in response to apparent flaws in the training and practices of experts examining proximate causes of loss. It will provide tailored professional development for members.
