Equipment to help disaster recovery
The Federal Government has pledged $30 million for new equipment for recovery efforts for disasters such as building collapses and earthquakes.
Attorney-General Robert McClelland says $15 million will go to police and emergency services to buy equipment capable of cutting through concrete to help find and rescue victims.
A dollar-for-dollar $15 million contribution from state and territory governments will also go towards training fire and emergency services rescue crews. The equipment will be held by fire services in capital cities.
