Earthquake group wants input on recovery strategy

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) has called for community input into developing its earthquake recovery strategy.

CERA says the strategy “will provide a roadmap for recovery from the earthquakes, including direction for major activities required to make the recovery effective, timely and well co-ordinated”.

It will consider five key areas: community wellbeing, the built environment, the natural environment, culture and heritage, and the economy.

It will also look at issues such as where rebuilding or redevelopment should or should not occur, locations of existing and future infrastructure, and the sequencing of rebuilding and reconstruction.

Residents can contribute to the strategy by attending a community workshop on the issue or by making a submission by Friday.

A draft recovery strategy will be released in September for further comment, before final proposals are presented to Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee in December.
