Drivers reflecting on vanity

There are some weird surveys that come out these days, but few are as strange as an NRMA survey which finds more than a quarter of men admit to “preening” themselves while driving, and those aged 24 to 34 are most distracted by their own appearance.

Now that we’ve established what we already knew, be even more stunned by the survey finding women are still the highest users of side and rearview mirrors to check their appearance – at 32%.

NRMA Insurance Road Safety Manager Pam Leicester says the chance of a collision increases when drivers divide their attention between the road and other things, such as applying lipstick, brushing hair, checking teeth or even using an electric shaver.

The survey also found 82% of motorists regularly eat and drink while driving.
