Cyclone pool changes among consumer group key focus areas
Broadening the scope of the cyclone reinsurance pool will be one of the key focus areas for the coming year, the Australian Consumers Insurance Lobby (ACIL) said at its annual general meeting.
The organisation says it will work toward changes including adding marine coverage in the pool and expanding eligibility criteria to encompass aged and disability care as well as Hamilton Island.
ACIL says in other areas it will also focus on broader market failures, such as around challenges posed by natural disasters and defective buildings, and will focus on specific business occupations and products that require attention to protect consumer interests.
Other priorities are strata insurance practices and advocating for the use of stamp duty funds for mitigation purposes, while it will conduct a review to identify and address any potential systemic instances where misleading and inaccurate expert reports are causing harm to consumers.
The re-elected committee comprises Chairman Tyrone Shandiman, Treasurer Bradley Von Xanten, Secretary Eva Jones and members Dawn Romanella, Pamela Farrell and Peter Marer.
