Cyclone Lincoln tipped to re-emerge off WA

The Bureau of Meteorology says there is a high likelihood of ex-Tropical Cyclone Lincoln reforming offshore from northern WA later this week.

Lincoln made landfall last Friday afternoon over Port McArthur and the NT-Queensland border after forming as a category 1 storm off the Gulf of Carpentaria.

It brought severe wind and flood warnings to several communities before moving inland.

It is expected to reappear on Thursday night or Friday as it hits the northern coast of WA, with the bureau giving it a 65% possibility of formation on Friday night.

The bureau has also flagged the risk of it becoming a severe cyclone as it moves towards the Pilbara coast.

The Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation declared the cyclone ongoing between 10am and 10pm last Friday.

Lincoln is the third cyclone to hit Australia this summer following Jasper and Kirrily, which brought 8700 and 3600 claims, respectively.

The Insurance Council of Australia has not released claims data relating to Lincoln but says it is “monitoring the situation”.
