Cyclone damage bill ‘not significant’
Queensland residents are not expected to file a significant number of claims in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Ului, according to early estimates.
The Category 3 cyclone made landfall at Airlie Beach in the state’s north on Sunday, with wind speeds of more than 200kmh knocking out power to around 60,000 homes.
However, early claims activity suggests the insurance bill will not be significant.
Suncorp spokesman Jamin Smith says claims are “not significant” at present, while Allianz spokesman Nicholas Schofield says pleasurecraft subsidiary Club Marine has received 25 claims worth about $2 million.
However, CEO Greg Fisher said he expects "this to increase over coming days".
Ex-tropical cyclone Ului has moved inland across the central west and has been downgraded to a rain depression.
