Cooper files for bankruptcy

He’s languishing in a temporary prison cell at Sydney’s Silverwater Remand Centre while he awaits sentencing, but Brad Cooper has nevertheless filed for bankruptcy, declaring debts of more than $10 million.

All that remains of the notorious businessman’s former lifestyle is his $277,000 superannuation policy and a 10% share in racehorse Midnight Nova.

The statement of affairs filed with the Insolvency and Trustee Service says there is nothing left of Mr Cooper’s $18 million in property as well as cars, gold coins, an art collection and jewellery.

Mr Cooper has been in custody at Silverwater for the past five months awaiting sentencing over activities surrounding the collapse of HIH Insurance in March 2001. Further submissions are yet to be heard in his sentencing hearing, which is not expected to finish until May 19 at the earliest.
