Continuing rain clouds claims outlook
Floodwaters and the threat of further heavy rain in northern Queensland are making it hard to count the cost.
On Friday, Suncorp spokesman Jamin Smith told insuranceNEWS.com.au the group has not received a significant number of claims but it is watching the situation closely.
Floodwaters have not yet receded, and Mr Smith would not weigh into the issue of whether flood claims would be met.
“I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to make a blanket call at this point,” he said. “Suncorp policies include flood as automatic cover, but insurance customers need to contact their insurance companies and assessments need to be made before answers to questions like that can be given.”
Weather experts are watching closely as the rains creep south. Heavy falls are forecast this week for areas between Townsville and Mackay, and Rockhampton in central Queensland may also feel the effects.
